Feedlots lead to stress with livestock

By Prosperity Acres On October 27th, 2010

The reason grocery stores are able to sell you meat at cheap prices is because that meat (pork, beef, chicken) come from feedlots.  They do not come from local farms nor are they fresh.  Most of the meat has to ride half way across the US before it reaches the grocery store to be cut up and placed on the shelf.  Do you know what is in the meat or how it has been raised.  Most health related illness can be brought on by the food you eat.  The saying is true you are what you eat.

Do not stop eating meat just because you don’t like the way it is handled, be willing to pay your local farmer to raise high quality meat for the local consumers to eat.  Yes it does cost more to eat local and eat fresh, just like anything else when you mass produce it, that cuts down on cost.  I really don’t want my food mass produced.  I want to know it is nutrient dense and does my body good.

Animals in feedlots are under a lot of stress can you image how that effects the meat that you are eating.  For more information read on.  We hand raise our animals, they are given a diet of grains, vitamins and minerals and free choice grass and hay.

Are you eating Antibiotics in your food

By Prosperity Acres On October 25th, 2010

We at Prosperity Acres don’t put antibiotics in our animal feed.  Our animals are hand fed each day by our family, our animals do not come from fed lots, nor are they locked up the last 90 days to be fattened.  They are free to graze our pastures.  Our meats are raised to grade at Prime on a consistent basis.   When you buy our meats you are paying for local fresh high quality beef and goat meat.

Beef Industry Woes

By Prosperity Acres On October 20th, 2010

A great story of why farms producing high quality beef stop.  This year has been different.  The question of why is your beef higher priced is all to often familiar.  To raise high quality beef takes a lot of work.  Most consumers want high quality this and that in their lives, why not high quality food.  You only have one body.  You are what you eat.  Eat Local, Eat Fresh and be willing to pay the farmer that grew that food for you the fair price it takes to grow it.

Farm Things

As this past weekend was the last weekend to show our fat steers it was a reminder to us of why we do this.  It is a family experience that keeps us together and makes us a stronger family unit.  The steers showed well and Jacob even entered the Pedal Tractor Pulling Contest and won second place.

We have raised animals all our lives and without a doubt being together like this is the Best.  Beef will be ready at the end of October.  New calves are already being worked and prepped for their first show in November.  Looking forward to another awesome show season and lots of family fun.
