BRANCH AVENUE IN BLOOM

Goats Go Green at the Historic Iverson Mall

Temple Hills, MD, May 2012 – Saturday May 26th, beginning at 11 AM “Green Goats” will be at Iverson Mall at the intersection of Branch Avenue and Iverson Street.  Mary Bowen, owner of Prosperity Acres will bring their goats to clear away shrubs with their four-legged friends which are hungry for the job, says Bowen.

Prosperity Acres Farm in Sunderland, Md sells beef and goat meat at the BAIB Farmers Market and has “green goats” that have been hired to chow down on the large bush that blocks commuters from a clear view of the Farmers Market located in the Iverson Mall Parking lot on Saturday mornings.

“What a fun way to go green, “said Jennifer Funn, Retail Revitalization Program Coordinator for BAIB.  “The goats have a ravenous appetite that will help the BAIB Community Design Committee landscaping project for this corner.  No mowing required,” said Funn.

Council Member Karen Toles, District 7, has extended strong support for the Branch Avenue In Bloom initiative and says “BAIB continues to find creative ways to bring the Temple Hills community together. Residents will have the opportunity to shop for fresh locally grown produce and their children will have the opportunity to pet these gentle creatures”

Branch Avenue In Bloom (BAIB) – is a program of the Maryland Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission  announces the partnership with Iverson Mall and Healthy Heights to bring a Farmers’ Market to the St. Barnabas Road and Branch Avenue corridor.

Branch Avenue In Bloom is a unique economic development project designed to rejuvenate Branch Avenue, St. Barnabas and the Naylor Road Metro business corridors by leveraging local assets from cultural and architectural heritage to local enterprises and community pride.  To learn more about Branch Avenue In Bloom, visit http://www.facebook.com/branchavenueinbloom or contact the Maryland Small Business Development Center at 301-403-2080.  Interested vendors should contact Jennifer Funn, Retail Revitalization Coordinator.
