Why not eat beef?

September of 2017 was a game changer for me.  I have experienced severe pain since I was 20 years old.  I don’t sleep more than 5 hours a night and I’m always exhausted.  September of 2017 I did the 23andme.com health and DNA test.  The results were very interesting.  My nutrition consultant Stacy Green of Prince Frederick, Maryland suggested I take the test.

The results show that I’m predisposed to gene for inflammation in the body.  Hence the pain all the time.  I was diagnosed with Lyme’s Disease many years ago which contributes to the pain as well.  But the most interesting of information was that fact that I have a dirty heart gene called MTHFR.  My body doesn’t do what it is supposed to do with Folate which is a vital nutrient for my heart.  I inherited that gene.  Knowing what I know now, I’m sorry my parents were never helped in this way.  I think it could have been a game changer for them as well.

It certainly was a game changer for me.  I read everything I could about what to eat that would support the dirty gene.  Fortunately the vegetables, nuts and MEATS were already in my diet.  It was now the New Year and I wanted to take the test results to another level, I wanted to find out what foods were good for my genes.  I took the health test from Habit.com.  That was another game changer, not really, but yes it was.  I found out that I don’t carry the gene for diabetes that was wonderful as that is on both sides of my family.  My body also easily processes fats, what’s next I said?

The test results provided feedback on what I should eat, this is why I’m sharing this really long post.  Habit breaks it down into servings of each food group.  Fats, Dairy, Legumes, Vegetables, Fruits, and yes MEAT.  I had made up my mind before I received the test results I wasn’t giving up BEEF no matter what the results were.  Well, I’m happy to tell you BEEF is on the top of my list of meats.  Beef is a healthy protein even though some believe it is not good for you.  Why not eat beef?  If I had made other food choices I would have been depriving my body of healthy nutrients.  BEEF it’s what’s for dinner is the favorite saying in my house.  I can’t imagine not having beef.  We work so hard to raise quality beef for not only our family but our consumers to feed their families.  Our cattle are happy and content and we won’t to keep them that way.

Have you thought about your health in this way and wondered why you feel a certain way after foods you eat.  We are meant to enjoy food, it is a social thing.  Dinner is very important to me.  I grew in a large family with a stay at home Mom who cooked dinner for us every night.  We talked as a family and enjoyed our time together.  I strive for our dinners to be the same.  Beef in our house is important, I’m always searching for new ways to prepare the meat.  Fortunately Habit sends weekly recipes to my inbox.

I hope you will take the time to dive into your health and well-being.  Remember eat beef it is good for you, say thank you to the farmer that raised it and know each and everyday they think of you when they are caring for their cattle.  My health and well-being is my priority.  I want to live a life of quality and longevity.  I enjoy eating and now I know what fuels my body for optimal performance.  Here’s to your optimal health.  Mary
